Spotlight on Adult League Committee Chair Andrea Barnes: Q&A on Her Role and Vision

Q: What got you involved with USTA?

I started playing USTA tournaments at the age of 11, and then I played through college and became a teaching pro. I have also coached Junior Team Tennis.


Q: What influenced you to become a member of the Adult League Committee?

Having played in leagues for many years, I wanted to give back and simultaneously offer a positive influence for players.




Q: What other roles have you been involved in with USTA?

I served on the Local Play Competition Committee, the National Adult Competition Committee, the Coaches Commission Committee, and I have also been coaching as a lead coach in early development camps for NorCal to help develop our youth players.


Q: Which is your favorite committee role and why?

The Local Play Competition Committee because it is the starting point for so many young players and it is crucial to keep players in the game and provide a positive experience for them early on.


Q: What is a fun fact that most committee members do not know about you?

I have two cats at home that I love them dearly.


Q: When did you start playing tennis? I started at the age of 11 in a free youth program in San Francisco playing out of public parks. It was called the Youth Tennis Foundation at the time and that has now evolved into Youth Tennis Advantage which is a part of the NJTL program.


Q: What is your favorite vacation spot? I have a condo in Vermont, where I enjoy hiking, relaxing, playing tennis on clay courts, and visiting my daughter.


Q: Favorite foods?

I enjoy all Mexican food.
