USTA NorCal offers
six types of junior tournaments to meet your competitive needs.
Although you may enter any tournament, you should strive to find the
level of tournament at which you can best meet your personal tennis
goals. You are also welcome to contact the junior tennis staff for
advice. |

Draws are either round robin or single elimination format. The format
is determined by each tournament committee and will be posted to the
online tournament page.
- All matches shall use regular scoring;
no-ad scoring will not be used.
- The match format (pro set best two out of
three sets, match tiebreak in lieu of a third set, single set) is
determined by each tournament committee and will be posted to the
online tournament page.
- If there are two or more entrants in an
event, the event will be held.
- If the draw size is limited and entries
exceed the draw size, players will be selected from the bottom up-all
players without ranking points will be selected first and then players
will be selected from the bottom of the most recently published
sectional Final Ranking List.
- Any age group that receives three or fewer
entries may combine with the next higher age group. Tournaments
combining age groups must notify the players involved immediately after
entries close. Players may withdraw without penalty.

In a National Level 5 event, you will receive national ranking
points if you win at least one round.
- Singles and doubles events will be held in each tournament.
There is no limit to draw size.
- Singles and doubles draws are either round
robin or single elimination draw format, based on draw size. Events
with two entrants or four or more entrants will be a single elimination
draw format. Events with three entrants will be round robins. The
tournament committee determines whether a consolation is run in single
elimination draw tournaments and will post this information to the
online tournament page.
- All matches shall use regular scoring;
no-ad scoring will not be used. The singles match format is the best of
three tiebreak sets. The doubles match format will be determined by
each tournament committee and will be posted on the online tournament

- Weather permitting, at least one round of
doubles shall be played during the first two days of the tournament.

In a National Level 4 event, you will receive national points
if you win at least one round.
- Singles is a draw of 32 with a Feed-In Championship (FIC) -
some tournaments may not be able to finish the FIC due to scheduling or
weather constraints. Singles matches will be the best of three tiebreak
sets; however, a tournament may use a match tiebreak in lieu of a third
set in the Feed-in Championship matches.
- Doubles will be held at the tournaments in
May and October. The doubles match format at the Boys' and Girls' 18
and 16 Excellence tournaments held in May will be eight game pro sets
with a match tiebreak at eight games all. The doubles match format at
all other Excellence tournaments will be two tiebreak sets with a match
tiebreak in lieu of the third set.
- All matches use regular scoring; no-ad
scoring will not be used.
- The most recently published sectional
Final Ranking List will be used for player selection.
- Only residents of Northern California may
participate.

In a National Level 3 event, you will receive national ranking
points if you win at least one round.
- Singles draw is not limited and will have a Feed-in
Championship.
- Doubles draw is single elimination.
- Singles and doubles will have a play off
for the third and fourth places.
- All matches will be best of three tiebreak
sets and use regular scoring; no-ad scoring will not be used.
- Only residents of Northern California may
participate.

In a National Level 3 event, you will receive national ranking
points if you win at least one round. You will also receive sectional
ranking points if the tournament is played in Northern California.
- All singles draws must be offered at a minimum size of 32
players.
- All singles draws must have a
Feed-In-Championship.
- Tournaments must use the same format in
singles consolation rounds as is used in the singles main draw.
- The singles match format is a single
elimination draw and will be the best of three tie-break sets or best
of three tie-break sets in lieu of a third set.
- The doubles format can either the best of
three tie-break sets, eight game pro-set with a match tie-break at
eight games all, or the best of three short sets.
